Summer Full with Colour

Summer Full with Colour

The mood is definitely hot, bright and colourful as the days lengthen, and the warmth of summer approaches. Gorgeous new tweeds and prints are arriving daily, and I’m enjoying creating exciting new designs with them.

In addition to being busy with new designs for lots of special occasions this summer, I’m very flattered to have been commissioned to write a book! The title to be: How to Design and Make a Wedding Dress. There’s much to do, but my chapter plan is decided, and how lovely it is to be able to inspire how to design and make such a special garment!

I’ve been lucky to have practice of the process discipline, by my teaching at West Dean College. here’s a reminder about my course, for the week 21-25 August “Making an unlined coat.” I have been bowled over by the tailoring produced by my students during the last three years.

Have a very Happy Easter, and enjoy the excuse for eating chocolate!

Cover Star

I was quite shocked to know that an image of me working was chosen for the cover on the April issue of the Fulham Residents’ Journal!

Always one to prefer being in the background, rather than the limelight, I was concerned about my lack of anonymity when out and about with Alfie – but so far, I don’t think we’ve been recognised.
The success is all credit to the talent of photographer Sarel Jansen, and I love his perception for the slightly vintage mood, combined with showing me so happy in my work!

A Riot of Colour

I am so happy to have such gorgeous fabrics to work with this season, and here are a selection of beautiful, colourful tweeds that are being woven in France as I write.

More often than not, I forget to photograph finished work – a habit I must try to rectify! However, prints have to be seen, and here are two Italian silks, which shout Chelsea Flower Show and Summer Garden Party.

The bug print is an absolute talking point – who can resist these beautiful dragonflies, ladybirds and beetles?

A mass of flowers printed in pinks and blues, is so fresh and feminine, and the floral effect is brought to life with sumptuous texture around the neckline and sleeves of this flirty little dress.

Wedding Atelier at Mortons

Last month we were one of the exhibitors at the Wedding Event held at the lovely Mortons Club, in Berkeley Square.  It was lovely to catch up with Edwina Ibbotson (millinery), Freya Rose (shoes), Abigail Bloom (cakes), and to meet Fabienne Egger (flowers), Miller Harris (perfume) and Scabal (men’s tailoring).

Here are a selection of images from the show, modelled by Amanda, stylish Mother of the Bride, Mica Brown,  Emma, and handsome groom David Darksun.
